INTERMODAL shipment and inventory tracking service provider Savi Networks announced the addition of a new wireless cargo tracking device for use within the company’s supply chain intelligence service, SaviTrak.
The new device is described as a tag that includes GPS, cellular, active RFID, and sensor capabilities.
Companies using the tag with the SaviTrak service will be able to access real-time intelligence on the global location, security, and condition of inventory within high-risk and high-value container shipments, Savi said.
The tag, when affixed to a container door, receives GPS location information at specified time intervals.
In addition, sensors embedded in the tag can detect and record details of security breaches, including whether a door was opened and in what manner according to the company.
The device can also monitor internal container conditions, including temperature and humidity.
The tag joins nine other third-party shipping container monitoring devices that the company has certified for use with the SaviTrak intelligence service.
