Sea Asia 2009 Conference: LNG code being updated

LNG GROUPS will need to abide by a new code that is being drafted by the sector, it was today announced at the Sea Asia 2009 conference in Singapore.

The code’s aim will be to reflect new conditions, as opposed to in the 1970s when current rules were drawn up, said BP Shipping’s Narendra Kumar.

Kumar added that new code is scheduled to take effect in 2011, when LNG transport is expected to rise.

Seminar moderator Captain James MacHardy said experts are examining proposals in painstaking detail because of the complex nature of the gas business.

The LNG business now involves QFLEX and QMAX vessels, technical applications including cryogenic engines and other factors.
