QRC calls for port security review after protests

THE QUEENSLAND Resources Council (QRC) has called for a review of Queensland port security following recent protests at two major export ports.

Last week, Greenpeace activists chained themselves to the Hay Point coal terminal in north Queensland.

A similar protest was held at the Abbot Point terminal near Bowen.

Ports safety and security will be discussed this week between the Premier, the Police Commissioner, State Government ministers, Maritime Safety Queensland and the Ports Corporation.

QRC chief executive officer Michael Roche says the Greenpeace protests highlight how easy it is to disrupt operations at the state’s ports.
