NT investigates channel deepening for Darwin Port

THE NORTHERN Territory Government said it will look into how Darwin’s East Arm Wharf could be more accommodating to larger vessels regardless of tidal conditions.

Territory Minister for Infrastructure Delia Lawrie said the proposed expansion of East Arm Wharf would increase the Port of Darwin’s capacity, reduce costs as well as confirm Darwin as a significant transport and logistics centre.

Tenders are currently being invited for two feasibility studies which will turn Darwin Port into a global facility vital to the Australian economy.

Recognising this, the Federal Government has announced it will contribute $3.2 million towards the proposed studies.
