Newcastle Port hopes for speedy resolution of coal ship loading agreement

THE NEWCASTLE Port Corporation is hoping for a speedy resolution to the deadlock over a new coal ship loading agreement.

BHP Billiton is still the only party to sign the agreement so far.

BHP's stance led to the scrapping of an interim deal by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) last week.

BHP has already given some ground to the ACCC and Port Corporation CEO Gary Webb believes the issue could be resolved in coming days.

Webb said all parties involved were committed to pursuing the long-term framework for the expansion of the coal industry.
