Mackay’s Ports begin trading as North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP)

MACKAY’S Ports announced that yesterday marked the beginning of its trading as North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP).

The NQBP will now be responsible for the Queensland ports of Hay Point, Mackay, Abbot Point and Weipa.

Brad Fish, the new acting CEO of NQBP, said the merging of the two port authorities to form a new government-owned corporation was the result of the 2008 Queensland Seaport Review addressing the future development, supply chain and trading needs of the state.

Fish said the merging of thee ports will allow it to focus on the core business of bulk commodities, bringing more opportunity for Queensland's export and trade.

He said the port’s aim is to be the recognised leader in the delivery of bulk-cargo infrastructure.

NQBP ports handle bulk shipments of coal, bauxite, sugar, grain, petroleum and general cargo.
