LNG export plant ideal for Newcastle Port

AN LNG export plant at the Port of Newcastle in New South Wales’ hunter Valley could soon be going ahead.

Plans to make the port a liquefied natural gas (LNG) hub have become more feasible since the approval of Western Australia's $43 billion Gorgon Gas deal.

State Ports Minister Joe Tripodi said he and Federal Government officials were closely examining the prospects for such a facility.

Eastern Star Gas is behind plans for the plant at Newcastle Port.

A recent feasibility study revealed Newcastle is ideally suited to an LNG plant.
