First LNG terminal to be built in Sweden

SWEDEN is to get its first LNG terminal, according to NCC Construction Sweden.

The company has been awarded the contract to build the terminal at Brunnsviksholme.

The terminal will import 250,000 tonnes of LNG per year, Sweden’s AGA Gas said.

According to NCC spokesman Bertil Schmidt, the new terminal will assist in replacing a large volume of ‘bad fuel’ with natural gas.

The valuable contract is split into two parts — for the terminal on contract from Linder Group and for the LNG tank itself, to be built on general assignment from Cryo AB.

The total order value for both transactions will be worth about $32 million, according to Schmidt.

The terminal will be the first of its type in Sweden.

According to the NCC, the terminal will be 33 metres high and 38 metres in diameter and construction will start in August.

It is expected to be completed during the first half of 2010 and scheduled to be in operation by May 2011.
