Bligh to meet with Swire Shipping over oil spill clean up

QUEENSLAND Premier Anna Bligh has announced she will meet with Swire Shipping to discuss the clean-up bill from the Moreton Bay oil spill.

The Swire-owned cargo ship, Pacific Adventurer, spilt more than 270,000 litres of fuel oil onto Moreton and Bribie islands and the Sunshine Coast in March.

The clean-up cost is about $32 million, but the company says it will only pay the amount required under Australian law, which is $14.5 million.

Bligh will meet with Swire Shipping representatives on Wednesday.
