ASBTIA warns businesses to relocate following iron ore export decision

THE AUSTRALIAN Southern Bluefin Tuna Industry Association (ASBTIA) says businesses will have to consider relocating following a decision to allow iron ore exports through Port Lincoln in South Australia.

The ASBTIA claims the exports will severely damage the region's clean image and pose environmental dangers.

According to the ASBTIA, the fishing industry is worried about issues like sediment being stirred up along shipping lanes.

The South Australian government approved the mining exports for a decade but the ASBTIA argues this will likely be extended.

The ASBTIA says any primary industry wanting to send clean green Port Lincoln to the world will have to relocate.

The mining export approval has support from communities near the Eyre Peninsula mine which claim it will give the region an important jobs boost.
